dogs gold exists for one main reason: the promotion of the health of dogs.
The company behind dogs gold undertakes research into the nutritional aspects of people with degenerative diseases, such as rheumatism, arthritis and osteoporosis. With a number of researchers being avid dog lovers it was always going to be only a matter of time before they branched off into looking at nutrition in dogs. It was as a result of this that what we now call dogs gold was born.
All of the treats at dogs gold are made bearing in mind what is and is not good for dogs, whilst still remembering that they have likes and dislikes, the same as we do. So, the smell, taste and texture of our natural dog treats have to be suitable for what healthy dogs want, whilst the look has to be attractive enough for humans!
Most dog owners are also dog lovers and will indulge their dogs with treats. We want to provide natural, healthy dog treats which permit you to do this without jeopardising your dog’s well being.
We know that artificial additives and preservatives, refined sugars and salt can be bad for us. That goes for dogs too.
At dogs gold we use no artificial additives, preservatives, flavourings, or colourings, no refined sugar and no added salt.
A lot of dog treats, because they contain preservatives, can be kept for a long time in the unopened pack. We at dogs gold are not keen on feeding our dogs with treats that has been hanging around for ages and is only still edible because it contains something (preservatives) which we do not actually want our dogs to eat anyway.
At dogs gold almost all of our healthy dog treats are made fresh to order. Such goods, obviously, have a limited shelf life, just like any other fresh food. The way we extend this somewhat is by using a variety of packaging techniques. Some packing is airtight, some is ‘airless’ (vacuum packing, oxygen absorbing sachets). These provide a shelf life of around 4 weeks for soft products and 8-12 weeks for harder, drier foods – and these products are suitable for home freezing, thus extending this even further. The carob dog treats (carob, 'carob with' and 'carob gift' range) do have a shelf life of around 4-6 months and, like chocolate, are best kept in an ambient temperature and not in the freezer. None of our packaging methods affects the ingredients of the product and they are all aimed at maintaining freshness, flavour, smell and texture.
Some times it is a matter of opinion whether something is good or bad for dogs. Sometimes it is a statement of fact. For example, Theo bromine is bad for dogs and can prove fatal. It is a stimulant found in chocolate, amongst other things.
At dogs gold we never use chocolate. We use unsweetened carob, which is an excellent substitute. Dogs love the flavour - though if they are used to sweet chocolate they may take a little while to acclimatise to it! It is non-allergenic and contains: helpful minerals, such as calcium and magnesium; pectin, which assists in digestion; and so many other good things. We use carob flour, rather than chocolate, or chocolate derivative, powder in goodies such as muffins. We also use carob, rather than chocolate chips.
All our natural healthy dog treats are tested by real dogs. We have a team of canine tasters, who are only too happy to do their job. We check their reaction to the taste, smell and texture of everything – and we especially check their digestive reaction to it. Several years of research have gone into our product range and development is a continuing process. We want to provide wholesome dog treats for all. We have a number of healthy dog treats which are suitable for diets other than the vegetarian, vegan and diabetic diets we particularly gauge the advertised range against. You have only to ask to find out more about these.
We hope that the above goes some way to showing you how you can really give your healthy dogs treats and care for them better than ever by making those dog treats healthy, whole food options that they will love.
